Marked by two heritage listed homes, this site in Randwick called for an innovative solution to retain the integrity of the majestic homes. Years of unsympathetic additions over the years had left the turn of the century homes in poor condition, and with little understanding of their original fabric. Formerly a Convent, the buildings had retained remnants of the old homes, but had been altered internally to adapt to its revised use.The brief required the original houses to be remodeled and restored to their original condition with minor alterations and refurbishments to provide contemporary living spaces that would benefit as much as possible from natural light and breezes. Extensive heritage studies on the two homes identified the original fabric in detail, and a careful design study was undertaken to ensure existing spaces were reinstated.
