Wellington on the Park

Wellington on the Park comprises 85 apartments fronting Waterloo Park and the surrounding streetscape. Top floor apartments enjoy undulating ceilings and double height cathedral living spaces under a sculptured roofline, providing unparalleled solar access and space.

We were appointed to design both the architecture and the interiors for the building, ensuring all aspects of the project work together to deliver a seamless indoor and outdoor experience for apartment owners and the broader community. It was important to provide visual variety and reduce its visual scale, while maximising the uninterrupted views to Waterloo Park to the east and north.

In response, we designed a series of slender building volumes wrapping around the eastern and northern boundary – fronting onto a series of rear garden spaces. Each of the 85 apartments were individually designed, providing seamless indoor/outdoor spaces. We resolved the masterplan by ensuring that all perimeter apartments faced east and north, with each apartment benefitting from a sunny aspect with views and outlook.

Integrated sustainability measures were pivotal in the design process. Sculptural metal clad roof forms, in particular, were sensitively modulated to open up to the north and allow sunshine into all parkside apartments. The terraces and expansive rooftop gardens enhance the sense of being connected to the park and outdoors, providing sheltered spaces to rest, relax, and grow vegetables.

“The site allowed us to maximise the GFA while being left with additional height. We took advantage of the additional height to articulate the facade with the roof features and create cathedral-like ceilings and capture northern light”  -Emili Fox
